The name “poker” probably stems from a combination of German pochen and French poque. It may also be derived from the Persian game of as nas. Another possible origin is the English game brag. Brag was widely played during the American Revolution. Today, it is a popular gentleman’s game in the U.K.
Although the origins of the game are not completely clear, the game’s popularity is increasing. It has become popular in casinos and online, and broadcasts of poker tournaments have reached huge audiences. Many poker games have a “big blind” and a “small blind.” The “big blind” is twice the size of the “small blind” and is used to make a bet.
